Everyone should read this book and do their research before picking a family pet. Although, every puppy is cute, they may not be the perfect fit for your family and your lifestyle. I love almost all breeds and I can appreciate all of them for their unique qualities. But would a Border Collie fit into every lifestyle? No, they are an active, super intelligent breed that is not suited (there are always exceptions) for a family that enjoys a calm non active lifestyle. On the other hand, an English Bulldog, would fit into the lifestyle of a family that is not very active (there are always exceptions). I believe the reason our shelters are over run with dogs is that people do not do their research about the dog's they choose.
Perfect example - "101 Dalmatians" Everyone wanted a cute Dalmatian puppy when the movie came out. Not understanding that Dalmatians were bred to run underneath a carriage all day long and protect the horses from marauding dogs. So therefore, they need vigorous exercise daily and can have aggressive tendencies. (Again there are always exceptions)
